The city Seč is found on the periphery of the Pardubice region in the district of Chrudim, the cadastre neighbours the region of Central Bohemia and Vysočina. It lies in the middle of picturesque nature in the centre of the Iron Mountains, on the edge of the Czech-MoravianHighlands with preserved forests, rocks, streams, with several protected territories and nature trails. The Seč recreational area is the largest and most sought after recreational area in the Pardubice region. HistoryThe settlement was established during internal colonisation of the Iron Mountains during the 12th and 13th century. The first documented reference to Seč dates back to 1318 and refers to the city as the property of ruler Věnka of Seč. In 1499, Seč was named a town. In 1564, the estate of Valdstein and Oheb received the inheritance of Václav Robmhapov of Suché, who commissioned the construction of the chateau on the site of the former courtyard (first referred to in 1577). In 1596, Karel Záruba of Hustířan had the side wing added to the chateau and gave it its present Renaissance look. In the 17th century, Seč was known for picking pearls from the Chrudimka River below Oheb. In 1853, Seč was promoted to a city. |
In the very same year, construction began on the Seč - Vápenný Podol road. The most significant monumentsThe main feature of the square is the Church of St. Lawrence from the 14th century, which was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in 1610 – 1620. Another significant monument is the Renaissance chateau with a preserved portal and emblem of the owners Karel Záruba of Hustířan and Anna of Valdstein. Now it is home to the municipal office. It is worth visiting the ruins of Oheb Castle and Vildstein, which are not far from the city. Sources used: http://www.mestosec.cz |
