The building is located above the town on the Hořický Chlum ridge. The foundation stone was set on 10 June 1926 in the presence of the first president of the Czechoslovak Republic, T. G. Masaryk. The project originally included an observation tower approximately 40 metres high, which could serve as an aviation beacon on the Prague – Warsaw line. In 1626 to 1628 the village was the site of his last stay before fleeing into exile. It was here that the foundations of hi pedagogical and philosophical work originated; allegedly he also began work here on his Great Didactics.
